Shizugawa Bay joined to the Ramsar Convention (Convention on Wetlands of International Importance Especially as Waterfowl Habitat) last week as the new site in Japan.

It was started the history of Ramsar Convention from Kushiro Marsh in 1980, however there are more than 50 sites registered in Japan so far.

Shizugawa Bay is large 6.5km and long 8km, sourced by several rivers such as Isatomaegawa, Hachimangawa, Oritategawa etc.

Aqua-culture is one of the important economy such as oyster, ascidian, seaweed, silver salmon, scallop, abalone.

You may find beautiful islets Areshima, Tsubakishma and Takeshima and more.

It was hit with huge damages by tsunami of Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011.

In Miyagi, there are already registered 3 sites, Izunuma-Uchinuma, Kejyonuma and Kabukurinuma.
